Update: 7/10/21I have to update my review because I have gotten used to this device and now I love it. I have only myself to blame for my initial review because rtfm. The pictures on the box clearly indicate that you open it first and then you place it. In the end this device is actually much more convenient than your typical sunshade. This product is a great idea, but execution left something lacking. You’d think using it would be intuitive, but its not. By looking at the pictures on the box you need to open it first and then place it. The construction is very flimsy and it broke the first time I tried to use it. There is no cut out for the rear view mirror. So you end up not actually placing it in your windshield but placing it over your rearview mirror and holding it in place with your visors. In the end it does block light and heat but it’s more of a pain to use than other methods.

I recently tried out the Ontel Brella Shield by Arctic Air, and I must say, it does deliver on its promise of effectively cooling down the interior of my car on hot summer days. The cooling action was noticeable and made a difference in maintaining a more comfortable temperature. However, one notable drawback I encountered was that the shield didn’t fit my SUV all the way. While it covered a significant portion of the windshield, it left a gap around the edges, which somewhat compromised its overall effectiveness. Despite this sizing issue, the cooling performance is commendable, making it a worthwhile option for smaller vehicles or those where a partial coverage is sufficient.

  5. Sarah Martinez

This is perfect for our car. It has helped so much with keeping the car cooler. I love that it opens like an umbrella as I could never fold or twist those other ones back together but his is perfect.

  6. John Martinez

This product is amazing. Easy to set up and take down and fits most windshields.

Reading the comments one would think folks expect a device like this to be made of gold and form-fitted for each and every vehicle ever made. If that is your expectation, I agree with those folks, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a window shade that opens like an umbrella (think no more of those wire rimmed devices you can never get back to their original shape so they fill your entire back seat between uses), this device is worth a look.My 2001 Toyota Avalon windshield is a bit too big for this device to fully cover and my rearview mirror is a hassle as there is no cutout in the shield for a mirror, but it still covers more than 98% of my windshield and it is easy enough to slide it under the mirror when putting it up.What I LOVE the most is it opens and closes with ease and fits in the glove box when not in use.Major CON: no doubt this thing will not last long. The inside mechanisms are all made of flimsy plastic and after 2 uses it is clear they won’t last long. I do hope being careful with the device I can prolong its life, but time will tell, for now I will just be easy with it and hope for the best.

The Sunbrella is great in its compact size when closed and fills the windshield area when open. Very easy to open, but make sure you open slowly in the car. Use the Visors to hold the Sunbrella in place. The base cap popped off one of the two Sunbrella’sI bought, and it went back on, but not sure about how long the base will last.I like it, but need to see how it holds up over the long run.

This window umbrellas is easy to use and I like how it protects from the sun but if you have a screen attached to your dash, this will be in the way. The new cars have a LCD monitor that is used for the NAVI, Radio, everything else.

  10. John Hernandez

It is easy to set up and take down.I like the umbrella design. When closed it does not take up a lot of space. It does work and serves its purpose. We don’t lock the umbrella all the way when set up so it fits window better.

  11. John Jones

Shield gets the job done and makes a difference, much less heat in my car. It is awkward to open in the car and then place at windshield! It opens and closes pretty easily. Had a hard time opening the very first time but that was it. Again, due to shape, it is weird to open in car. I have never put in case that is included. It’s very compact and can fit anywhere like a tiny umbrella. I drive a Chevy Blazer 2019 and it fits my car well.

  12. Laura Smith

Plastic cylinder head wire controller top plastic broke from stress needs better part , the tips rip out of the edge sew in a reinforcement there just for a more dependable product. well seeing that, there is a need for flexible wire arms to prevent bending, true titanium alloy will last forever. The reflectiveness is low and almost useless you need a better one with colors like a titanium /white mylar/reflection paint”.”

  13. Daniel Davis

***It broke within a month 😡***It works really well for keeping it much cooler in the car and keeping the steering wheel from burning my hands. The only thing is, it doesn’t cover the whole windshield and I have to tilt it a bit or the handle turns on my emergency flashers. It’s also VERY HOT when you first take it out of the window so you’re burning your hands trying to fold it so it’ll go into its pouch. Otherwise and overall, it’s great!!! It’s very easy to use.

  14. Emily Hernandez

I bought my second one recently after my first one broke when I was putting b it away after having it for way over a year. It was wonderful. Easy to use. Did a wonderful job keeping the car from getting so hot. Even gave my brother the second one I got.I bought the replacement last month and after a few weeks, when I opened it, it broke at the top and is totslly useless.I lost the instructions and address if who and how to return it and get another one.I was so disappointed because I loved the one I had before and was loving this one. It’s just that I noticed the second one was having a difficult time opening up.

  15. Jessica Miller

I love these! Keeps it shaded

  17. John Martinez

Very easy to put up and take down, folds up small, so it doesn’t take a lot of room in your car. BUT- I measured my windshield, so I would get the right size and it’s about 3 inches too short on the sides. By the measurements they gave on their product, I thought it would be a little bit short from top to bottom, but it fits perfect top to bottom. The length I wasn’t worried about at all and it ended up too short.

  18. Sarah Brown

This product would have worked great if it fit my car. I have a medium sized car; Toyota Camry and it didn’t fit my windshield. I was unable to open it all the way out to cover the windshield. It only opened partway to fit my car and the only way to keep it up was to use the visors; so I was disappointed. Didn’t bother to return.

  19. John Garcia

The delivery was fine. We read the instructions and attempted several times to open it inside the car next to front window. We fought with it for a couple of minutes and finally gave up the first try. After that, we tried again, and we managed to get it opened, but found it difficult to close. I’ve seen better that are slightly different but much easier to use.

  20. Anna Williams

It’s a little tricky to unfold and get in the window, probably because it sits so tightly in the window, but once there, it works better than any of the other folding ones I’ve used. Unlike others with a wire rim, this is folds up just like an umbrella and fits easily into the sturdy leather carry case. I have a Honda minivan so this size is good. There are flaps at the edges that are not a part of the umbrella furl and I can’t get them to stay in place – which is why, and where, you see light coming in…but still, it blocks most of the light and is easier to store than others I’ve had.

  21. Mark Davis

Great Product.. It’s a Little Larger than the Average/Normal Windshield… Other Than That It’s Great!!!

  22. Mike Hernandez

I have a Hyundai ELANTRA 2022 and it fits perfectly in the entire windshield. Awesome design can’t believe it took this long for someone to come up with us!

  23. Robert Miller

ok this thing works just fine. i dont know why others have a problem using it and breaking them.this thing just opens/close like an umbrella, super easy to store. love it.only negative side is that it covers only 80% , but i love it cuz it’s super easy to use and store.

  24. John Williams

I love this design. Easy to put up and take down. Living in Arizona we keep our cars cool any way we can. I found it to be effective. It could use stronger materials, as the handle broke easily and I had to super glue it back on, which is actually working so far. I would just say order it and use it gently, and know it isn’t made of the best materials and may not last as long as you hoped.

  25. Anna Miller

Pretty darned nifty idea. I’ll hold my overall rating until I see if it will last as long as a regular sun shade. My last one made it 2 full seasons. I’m not sure that this will. But we’ll see.

  26. Laura Martinez

I bought this because I was tired of the accordion shade I have been using. I hoped this would work better and take up less space.I had to give it to my brother for his birthday, because I can’t use it. I have a Garmin and a dashcam stuck to my windshield, which prevents this from laying flat against the windshield. It also just doesn’t seem to fit my Equinox windshield that well. I have no intention of taking everything off my windshield to use this. That being said, my brother loves this. He has nothing attached to his windshield and drives a Ford Focus. It fits his windshield just fine. It would have been handy to know that if you have equipment on your windshield, this will not work well, before I ordered it. Although, it did make a good birthday gift.

An old, flimsy sunshade for my wife’s RAV-4 finally gave up the ghost. It had gotten to the point where it was actually translucent, so it didn’t work anywhere near as well as intended.I bought this shade because it appeared to fold up easily when not in use. It does–it works like an umbrella. It’s well made and sturdy. The side facing outward is reflective silver, so it does a good job of keeping direct sun from superheating the car’s interior and wreaking havoc with the dash and leather seats. The only very small criticism I have–and it is by no means a deal-breaker–is that when you collapse it, you have to manually fold up the ribs–it works much like an umbrella, but just needs that extra step to make it the minimum size.First wold problems, I know.I’d buy another one without hesitation.

  28. Anna Miller

I bought this for my wife it was delivered on July 2, 2021 she loved it until today July 23, 2021 when she brought it to me and said she was was putting it in the window and it came apart. Now she has to prop it up in the window. I don’t know if this is common or not, maybe I just got a defective one. I just wanted any other potential buyers to be aware of this problem in case it is a common problem. UPDATE 7/25/21 : After the seller received my complaint on 7/23/21 they said that they were sending me a replacement right away at no charge. The next day 7/24/21 at 12:27 pm an Amazon driver was making the delivery. I will not hesitate to recommend this seller or this product to anyone that I can because this seller reminds me of a time when great customer service meant something. Thank You, from one happy customer

This is the easiest to open and close car sunshield I have used in the last 40 years of car ownership.

  30. John Williams

This shield is great for the sun, I used a lot on the summer easy the install. Very happy purchase.

  31. Robert Davis

I have a SUV, and it fits, it works just like an umbrella. It is keeping the sun off my dashboard, and keeping the car cooler. I am giving it a four because the mechanics of it fell a bit cheap

  32. Sarah Johnson

This is my second go around with Brella Shield. The first one fit my windshield like it suppose too. It eventually broke on me. I like the construction of this current one I have now, they’ve made a slight modification to it! The only thing is for some reason it’s a bit smaller but it covers the majority of my window, but now i see why the entire glass isn’t covered and its due to rear view mirror. If brella shield would have kept the split at the top center of shade then this wouldn’t be an issue. I still really like the umbrella concept, easy to put up and take down.

  33. Laura Jones

Product lasted through about 6 operations. The central star hub is plastic and fractured at the point where a pin was pushed through securing the handle to the top. I plan to repair this with metal inserts as I really think it is a great idea vs the old fold-up cardboard or silvered bubble stuff. It may have lasted if it wasn’t for the extreme heat we’re experiencing this year. This could also be a 1 in a 100 manufacturing defect, it happens.

  34. John Johnson

It is hard to open but gets easier in time. Fits nice and works. No more burning my hands on the wheel. Keeps car cool

  35. Emily Brown

Umbrella concept works really well because it doesn’t take up much room in the car. It’s easy to install. You just put the visor flaps down to hold in place once you put it over the dash.

  36. Mike Brown

I bought this because the sunmers in Phoenix are getting significantly hotter more consistently and I’ve decided to start taking care of the dash on my Explorer. The Brella sunshade takes about 10 seconds to set up. It covers MOST of my windshield, apart from a couple inches on each side. Call it 95% coverage. Putting it away takes a bit longer but is nice and compact, all things considered.

  37. Anna Hernandez

Works pretty good. Takes a lot of cockpit room deploying, have to be carfull of passenger in front seat.

  38. Mike Jones

For the price great item. My car is parked outside everyday in Florida sun. It keeps my car very cool everyday. I will be purchasing more of them as birthday and christmas gifts this year.

  39. Robert Garcia

The Brella Shield is a huge improvement over the folding type sun blockers. The wife and I really like them. It does have some flaws that should be addressed which could possibly lead to better sales in the future. Issue #1) The steel wires that project to the outer edge that slips into a pocket should be made to where the length can be modified for better fit. This would require the addition of a series of maybe 2 or 3 pockets for the wire to slip in. Issue #2) The product should come in at least 2 sizes. The current size and another that is 6 inches longer. The current size is a good length for my wife’s Escape with the bending of 2 wires. The fit in my Chevrolet Silverado was fair. It was 3 inches too short on each side. The final issue and most critical is the umbrella staff/ shaft is centered on the product and when put in place bears hard against the plastic dash. I know it would look odd to move the staff/shaft 2 to 3 inches off center on the narrow side/height. This would prevent the the staff/shaft from contacting the dash.

  40. Emily Smith

Extremely handy. Only problem is there is no cut out for the rear view mirror. I read the reviews AFTER I purchased. When this one wears out I will buy one that has the mirror opening. Otherwise great!!

  41. Robert Williams

This thing is well made and works just great. This is my second one. I’ll buy one every year because I use the heck out of it, and it still holds up for about a year!! Highly recommended!!!!

I purchased this from my mom who is in her 70’s. It took is both a minute to figure out how to open it: pull firmly on the handle first to pull out the shaft, then push the button to open the umbrella. I didn’t expect that this product would require extending the shaft like a normal umbrella would, as it needs to fit in your car, and the instructions only say to open the umbrella shield without further explanation. We almost returned the product because it wouldn’t open!Other than that, once we figured out how to open it, it’s easy to use, it’s convenient, and it keeps the car a little cooler when parked in the sun. Closing it is simple, it includes a sheath to store it when not in use. I’m thinking about purchasing one for myself.

  44. Robert Williams

Awesome product. Once I learned which direction it goes to get the most coverage in the windshield, it works great. The button to close it was a little difficult at first, but I got the hang of it. I’m in Central Texas where it gets super hot during the day & now I’m not burning my fingers anymore like with the accordion style that I had. This Brella Shield is compact & no bigger than a real umbrella, it can tuck away in it’s case between the seat. I hope it last longer than some of the reviews I’ve read on here.

  45. Daniel Smith

Love this product. It is so easy to use and folds and stores easily. Have one for each of our vehicles.

  46. John Brown

I have bought 2. I broke the first one do to trying to shove it in place in front of the mirror. The instructions have updated to tell customers not to do what I did with the first one. It opens up and closes with ease just like an umbrella. You open it up and put it in place behind the mirror and use the window shades to hold it in place, when you are ready to drive away it only takes a second to fold it back up.

  47. Robert Martinez

Car: 2012 Toyota CamryPros: Easy to use like most umbrellas, easy to store away. Mostly keeps the sun awayCons: Not sure if mine is defective, but the metal keeps pushing down (see photos 2 &3) instead of going up. Still feels hot in car (but I live in California & it’s pretty hot rn 🔥Overall I recommend if you don’t mind that it won’t exactly over each corner of your car windshield. It said it would fit my car, but my rearview mirror does somewhat block it a bit, but it does the job pretty well. It’s not totally hot in the car when I get inside, so I don’t totally mind that it doesn’t cover each corner. It’s definitely a lot better than the flimsy car sunshades I use to buy that I could never put back together.

  48. John Johnson

We live in Texas and this thing is a game changer! So easy to put in the windshield. I love that the backing is silver to help eliminate the heat reflection. I love that it also adds privacy and makes it harder to see in the vehicle. I highly recommend this for anyone.

  49. John Martinez

Works very well to keep the summer sun out of the car. Fits several vehicles, compact & easy to close & store

  50. Jessica Smith

This product does its job. The only complaint I have is putting it back in the case. It isn’t easy to do. For me, it’s more complicated than I would prefer.
